No, it’s not a typo: the sequel to the original Dumb and Dumber, starring Jim Carey (Kick Ass 2) and Jeff Daniels (Looper) is officially in production by Universal and the Red Granite team. Although it’s taken forever (like removing a tongue from ice), the current draft of the script has been written by Horrible Bosses writers John Morris and Sean Anders.
A prequel has already been made, Dumb and Dumberer, showing how the two met. Made 9 years after the original, the prequel tanked. However, none of the original cast was included.
The current storyline sees the return of both Carey and Daniels, who are 19 years older (but hopefully not 19 years smarter). Daniels is searching for his illegitimate daughter, whose kidney he hopes to attain. Although sequels tend to be difficult waters to tread, hopefully the two (or is that to?) lead actors can revive the franchise. My list of what must remain from the first film are: the hair (specifically Carey’s,) the dog van, and laxatives. So far, the sequel looks to mirror exactly what made the original wonderful.
