The first full-length trailer for Iron Man 3 has been uploaded online, and it looks much better than its predecessor.
It probably will not topple the original Iron Man in terms of reputation, although the third installment has one advantage at making it a great comic book movie: the comical-driven Iron Man, played by Robert Downey, Jr, is gone. (The Avengers). This adaptation looks much darker.
There was a very small teaser a few days ago revealing several portions of the trailer, and with much relief, the best parts were not let out of the box prematurely. The video begins with Iron Man lying on his back in a lightly snow-covered field, the circular light on his chest dimming dangerously low. The depiction of one of Marvel’s greatest superheroes on film, as a defeated chunk of metal, nearly dissolves the fact that Iron Man is wearing some slick new body armor.
The newest super villain is also revealed: the Mandarin, portrayed by Sir Ben Kingsley (Hugo). The Mandarin squeezes in some dialogue and even gets some screen time, and while menacing, I cannot imagine he will be as great as Red Skull or Loki were in Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor.
If this is the final hour of Iron Man, at least it looks terrific.
