Sony’s New Twist on Charles Dickens’s “Oliver Twist”

Sony's New Twist on Charles Dicken's "Oliver Twist"

Have you ever wondered what Oliver Twist did when he grew up? Well, we will get to find out on screen in Dodge and Twist!

There have been many adaptions of the classic Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist; maybe it has something to do with the audience wanting more. It seems there is something new on the menu. A spin on the classic tale is being considered.

Sony is keen to get the ball rolling on Dodge and Twist, a film where the audience is invited to meet the Artful Dodger and Oliver Twist 20 years after their last adventure.

Screenwriter Cole Haddon (writer of NBC’s upcoming Dracula series), has a plot that finds the boys on opposite sides of the law. Word is that Dodger is on her royal highness’ most wanted list, which would insinuate that Twist is the hand of the law. However, a plan is underway to get their not-so-clean hands on the famous Crown Jewels.

The style is set to follow that of the new Sherlock Holmes franchise with Robert Downey Jr, so for fans of those films, this is sure to be a exciting and visual trip.

With such a classic novel at the core of the film, there is a lot of space for criticism and some big, if not grubby and Victorian, boots to fill.

Born and raised in the beautiful Shire of Berkshire, England, I have always been one of those annoying people who can turn anything into a movie reference. After officially studying film at the age of 16, I fell in love with the art form and knew I didn’t want to do anything else. Currently studying Film at Westminster University, I love working on creating films and also looking at the theoretical and historical aspects. As a film student I find it nearly impossible to become absorbed in a film, always analyzing every technical aspect. So when I can sit back, relax and enjoy a film, I know that it is something that has technically and personally achieved my seal of approval. I enjoy films from all areas of the globe, but cannot help but have a soft spot for the British film industry. The gritty realism displayed in films such as Shane Meadows’s “Dead Mans Shoes” (2004) and “This is England” (2006) has inspired me and I so enjoy the style. I also have an unhealthy love for the Horror genre, even the cheapest budget films. I hope my writing will inspire and inform, and that its is also enjoyable to read, as I strive to let you know what films are my cup of tea and what can stay in the kettle.
